Egypt

Egypt is an American stoner rock and doom metal band from Fargo, North Dakota, United States. Formed in 2003, the band is known for its heavy guitar riffs, deep bass lines, blues influences, and psychedelic sound. Their music combines elements of traditional heavy metal, stoner rock, doom metal, and desert rock. The original lineup consisted of bassist and vocalist Aaron Esterby, guitarist Ryan Grahn, and drummer Chad Heille. Egypt gained recognition within the underground metal scene through its heavy, riff-driven sound and the track Valley of the Kings, which appeared on the band’s self-titled EP, originally released in 2007 and reissued in 2009. Egypt formed around 2003 in Fargo, North Dakota. The band developed a heavy sound rooted in classic hard rock and heavy metal, characterized by distorted guitars, powerful bass lines, and extended instrumental grooves. The original lineup featured Aaron Esterby on bass and vocals, Ryan Grahn on guitar, and Chad Heille on drums. In 2005, the group recorded a four-track demo. Egypt initially disbanded in 2006, before its music reached a wider audience through subsequent releases. The band’s early recordings were first released on vinyl in 2007 through the Norwegian label Lyderhorn Records. In 2009, the American label MeteorCity reissued the material as the self-titled EP Egypt. The reissue helped introduce Egypt’s music to a broader international audience, particularly among fans of stoner rock and doom metal. The release became an important part of the band’s early underground legacy. Following the band’s initial split, Egypt reunited and continued developing its distinctive sound. In 2013, the band released Become the Sun, its first full-length studio album. The lineup featured Neal Stein on guitar alongside Esterby and Heille. The album includes tracks such as Matterhorn, The Village Is Silent, World Eater, and Greenland. In the same year, Egypt released Cyclopean Riffs, a split release with American stoner rock band Wo Fat. In December 2015, the band released Endless Flight. The album expanded on Egypt’s established combination of heavy riffs, blues-inspired passages, and extended instrumental sections. It includes the title track, The Tomb, Black Words, and Shaman’s March. In June 2017, Egypt released Cracks and Lines, continuing its exploration of heavy stoner rock, doom metal, and psychedelic influences.
