Founded in Kent, UK in 1970 (as Chapel Farm) – disbanded in 1974 – briefly reformed in 1976–1977. The band originated from Kent around 1973 and recorded at Chipping Norton Studios in July and August 1974. The material was sourced from a remastered master tape. Previously known as Chapel Farm, Fantasy recorded an LP and a promotional single for Polydor Records in 1973. They also recorded several songs for an intended follow‑up, but Polydor chose not to invest further and the recordings remained unreleased. Paul Lawrence had replaced Paul Petley as lead singer of Chapel Farm, and Pete James took over on guitar after Bob Vann died suddenly in an accident at a Melody Maker rock band competition in Cliftonville, Kent, which also happened to be his 18th birthday. Pete James had been introduced to the band by drummer Jon “Wol” Webster, as the two had previously played together in Joy. Geoff Whitehorn had also played in Chapel Farm but left to pursue a solo career after the band recorded their demos at Chipping Norton Studios in 1970. Members: Paul Lawrence (vocals, guitar), David Read (bass guitar, vocals), David Metcalfe (keyboard, vocals), Pete James (guitar), Jon Webster (drums), Bob Vann (guitar). The story of the band began at Chapel Farm, a farmhouse near Gravesend (Kent), where the group first developed their sound. The lead guitar was originally played by the promising Bob Vann, but after his death in a car accident he was replaced by Pete James.
