Widek is the solo project of Polish guitarist and producer Maciej Dawidek, based in Gdańsk. Active since 2010, the project is known for its instrumental, melodic metal that blends atmospheric sound design with progressive and djent‑influenced elements. Dawidek records, mixes and masters all material himself in his own studio, Widek Records, making the project a fully self‑contained creative endeavor. Widek’s music is often described as a fusion of ambient textures, post‑rock expansiveness and modern progressive metal. His compositions frequently explore cosmic or science‑fiction themes, placing him in the same aesthetic sphere as artists such as Gru, Andromida and Sithu Aye. Dawidek refers to his own style as “ambidjent”, a term that reflects the combination of ambient soundscapes with djent‑based rhythmic structures. Although his work can be technically intricate, it often maintains a meditative or reflective quality due to its repetitive motifs and atmospheric layering. Many of Widek’s tracks feature guest musicians from the international progressive‑metal community. Contributors have included Gru, Sithu Aye, Owane, David Maxim Micic, Plini and others. These collaborations add stylistic variety while maintaining the project’s core sonic identity. Since 2011, Widek has released multiple albums and an EP, demonstrating steady artistic growth. Outside the Universe is often noted as his first fully realized full‑length album, featuring sixteen tracks that span ambient, post‑rock, djent, metalcore and progressive rock/metal influences.
