Clark Hutchinson

Clark‑Hutchinson was the partnership of Andy Clark and Mick Hutchinson, who first worked together in the band Vamp alongside former Pretty Things drummer Viv Prince. The duo later became known for their album A=MH², a release built around extended improvisations and Eastern‑influenced musical ideas. After their debut, they expanded the lineup by adding bassist Stephen Amazing and drummer Del Coverly.

Andy Clark’s early life shaped much of his artistic path. Born on the seafront in Herne Bay and raised in a strict Roman Catholic household in Blackfen and Eltham, he grew up in an environment where music—especially rock—was discouraged. A serious accident during his school years left him with severe leg injuries and months of recovery in hospital. The experience, and the encouragement he received from fellow patients, convinced him to pursue the life he truly wanted. Although he later worked briefly at a bank, his passion for music eventually led him back to the piano and, ultimately, to forming Clark‑Hutchinson.
