Fleet Foxes is an indie folk band from Seattle, formed in 2006. The group has always revolved around Robin Pecknold, the band’s lead vocalist and primary songwriter, and Skyler Skjelset, whose guitar work helped define their early sound. The current lineup also includes Casey Wescott (keyboards, mandolin, vocals), Christian Wargo (bass, guitar, vocals), and Morgan Henderson, a multi‑instrumentalist known for his work on upright bass, woodwinds, and various string instruments. The band gained widespread attention in 2008 with the release of the Sun Giant EP and their self‑titled debut album on Sub Pop. Both projects were met with strong critical praise and quickly established Fleet Foxes as one of the most distinctive voices in modern folk. Their follow‑up album, Helplessness Blues (2011), received even greater acclaim and became their most successful record commercially, reaching number four on the Billboard 200. After taking a break, Fleet Foxes reunited in 2016 to create Crack‑Up, released in 2017 through Nonesuch Records. In 2020, Pecknold released Shore under the Fleet Foxes name, a project largely crafted without the rest of the band and released via Anti‑. Fleet Foxes’ music is consistently praised for its intricate arrangements, poetic songwriting, and rich vocal harmonies. Their debut album earned a spot on Rolling Stone’s list of the best albums of the decade and appears in 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. The band has also received two Grammy nominations: one for Helplessness Blues (Best Folk Album, 2012) and another for Shore (Best Alternative Music Album, 2022).
