Pymlico is an instrumental ensemble from Oslo, Norway, led by drummer and composer Arild Brøter. The group’s music blends elements of progressive rock, fusion, and cinematic themes, often incorporating melodic hooks and accessible structures associated with pop. This mixture of genres, combined with a polished level of musicianship, forms the band’s characteristic sound. Brøter founded Pymlico in 2009 as a personal creative outlet. The early studio period resulted in three albums — Inspirations (2011), Directions (2012) and Guiding Light (2014). These releases featured contributions from numerous guest musicians and received positive attention within the international progressive‑rock community. As interest in live performance grew, Brøter assembled a stable lineup capable of bringing the studio material to the stage. This formation evolved into the modern version of Pymlico, known for its tight ensemble playing, genre‑crossing compositions and continually developing sound.
