The Egocentrics

The Egocentrics are a Romanian psychedelic rock band from Timișoara, known for their atmospheric sound, extended instrumental passages and a preference for maintaining a low public profile. The group consists of Brenn (guitar), Jess (bass) and Hera (drums). Rather than relying on extensive promotion or media presence, the band has built its reputation through immersive live performances and gradually expanding recorded output. The Egocentrics first attracted international attention while still performing primarily in local venues. Their debut EP, Mystic Initiation, released in 2008, was self‑financed and recorded in a local studio. Despite its modest production circumstances, the EP received positive reviews from outlets such as Cosmic Lava and The Ripple Effect, highlighting the band’s potential within the psychedelic and stoner‑rock scenes. Following the reception of their EP, the band signed with the German label Nasoni Records. In August 2009, they recorded their first full‑length album during an intensive twelve‑hour studio session. Additional layers—including xylophone, extra percussion and tube‑driven synthesizers routed through Moog amplifiers—were added afterward to enrich the sound. The resulting album, Love Fear Choices and Astronauts, was released on April 1, 2010. It received strong critical acclaim from publications such as Lowcut (Denmark), Psychotropic Zone (Finland), StonerRock.com, The Sleeping Shaman (UK) and Lords of Metal (Netherlands).
