Message was a progressive rock group active in Germany during the 1970s. The band was founded by British guitarist Allan Murdoch together with vocalist and woodwinds player Tommy McGuigan. Between 1972 and 1980, Message released seven studio albums, developing a sound that combined elements of progressive rock, hard rock, and melodic experimentation. McGuigan remained with the group through the release of their fourth album, Synapse, after which he departed. Murdoch continued to lead the band through multiple personnel changes, working with several different lead vocalists in the later years. David Hanselmann performed on the album Using the Head before later joining Triumvirat. Anna Haigis contributed vocals to the band’s appearance on the Brain Festival live compilation. The final phase of Message featured Sammy Kunig, who sang on the group’s last two albums, Astral Journeys and Miles of Smiles. Throughout its existence, Message maintained a consistent presence within the German progressive rock scene, with Murdoch serving as the central figure guiding the band’s musical direction.
