The Analogues

The Analogues were a Dutch tribute act dedicated to recreating the music of the Beatles. Founded in 2014, their aim was to perform the Beatles’ later studio work live, using analogue and period‑accurate instruments. Because the Beatles never performed many of these songs or full albums on stage, The Analogues became known for their meticulous attention to detail and authenticity. They did not attempt to visually resemble the Beatles, but their performances were widely praised for faithfully reproducing the band’s distinctive sound and musical complexity. The project concluded with a final concert on 28 December 2024 at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam. The group was conceived by Fred Gehring, former top executive of the Tommy Hilfiger Corporation. He approached bassist and producer Bart van Poppel, who conducted an in‑depth analysis of the Beatles’ arrangements and consulted Beatles Gear, a detailed catalogue of the instruments used throughout the Beatles’ career. This research guided the search for historically accurate equipment, including a 1965 Lowrey Heritage Deluxe organ and one of only thirty known Mellotrons from a specific series — the same type used in the intro to “Strawberry Fields Forever”.
