Pink Floyd

Pink Floyd were pioneers of progressive and psychedelic rock, known for their atmospheric sound and ambitious concept albums. Their mix of experimentation, storytelling and sonic depth made them one of the most influential bands in modern music. This page features a curated selection of their standout tracks and live moments. Pink Floyd is an English rock band formed in London in 1965 by Syd Barrett (guitar, vocals), Nick Mason (drums), Roger Waters (bass, vocals) and Richard Wright (keyboards, vocals). David Gilmour (guitar, vocals) joined at the end of 1967. The group first gained attention as one of the earliest British psychedelic bands, known for extended compositions, sonic experimentation, philosophical lyrics and elaborate live shows. They later became one of the leading acts in progressive rock. With Barrett as the primary songwriter, Pink Floyd released two hit singles — “Arnold Layne” and “See Emily Play” — and their debut album The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (1967). Barrett left the band in 1968 due to deteriorating mental health. In the early 1970s, Roger Waters became the main lyricist and conceptual architect behind the band’s most successful albums: The Dark Side of the Moon (1973), Wish You Were Here (1975), Animals (1977), The Wall (1979). The film adaptation Pink Floyd – The Wall (1982) won two BAFTA Awards. The band also composed several film soundtracks. Internal tensions led to Richard Wright leaving in 1981, followed by Roger Waters in 1985. David Gilmour and Nick Mason continued as Pink Floyd, later joined again by Wright. They released A Momentary Lapse of Reason (1987) and The Division Bell (1994), both supported by major world tours. In 2005, Gilmour, Mason and Wright reunited with Waters for a one‑off performance at Live 8. Syd Barrett died in 2006, and Richard Wright in 2008.
