Distant Dream is an international music project created during the digital era, built around remote collaboration between musicians, writers, designers and audio engineers from multiple countries. Rather than functioning as a traditional band, the project operates as a global collective, with contributors working from locations including India, the United States, Sweden, France and New Zealand. Their debut release, A New Beginning, emerged from this distributed creative process, evolving from a conceptual idea into a fully realized multimedia work. The project was initiated in Kolkata, India, but many of the participants share connections to Ann Arbor, Michigan, and the University of Michigan. This network of international artists provided the foundation for a collaborative model in which compositions, recordings and visual elements were developed across different studios and time zones. Musical parts were written in one location, recorded in another and mixed elsewhere, resulting in a production shaped by global input. Distant Dream’s work extends beyond music alone. The project incorporates narrative elements and visual art, forming a multimedia presentation that includes a storyline and accompanying imagery. More than twenty contributors are credited across the project, reflecting its broad creative scope. The music of Distant Dream is characterized by atmospheric guitar work, melodic structures and cinematic arrangements.
