In his mid‑thirties, an engineer decides to leave his job behind, lifts his eyes toward the horizon, and heads out with nothing but a backpack and a guitar. After years of working for others, he wants to return to making his own music — his own melodies, his own words. The destination doesn’t matter much; the journey itself becomes the purpose. Along the way he collects ideas and inspiration, whether standing at the North Cape or wandering through the Peruvian Andes. From these travels came Kai’s debut EP The Journey Is the Reward, released in 2015 under the name SONNHALTER. After winning the international songwriter award “Prix des Aralunaires” at Luxembourg’s Festival Saveurs Culturelles du Monde, SONNHALTER went on to perform as support for acts such as Pur, Jupiter Jones and Nico Santos.
